Thought I'd just hop on here to share with you guys this fun and easy DIY that came up on my Youtube Subscriptions box! I did a post on this trend not too long ago and one of the commenters said she would try and figure out how to do this herself.

As with at least 50% of my posts, inspiration strikes most when I'm shopping. Forever21 is probably the place to go if you want to buy trendy and kind of inexpensive clothes. So, while I was browsing through the sale section, I found this really sheer maxi dress with no slip underneath and thought, how would anyone wear this without flashing their goodies to the entire population?

Here is where the second wardrobe tip comes in and it branches off of the first one, which was versatility.

LAYERING.

Holy smokes, how many times have you heard someone say "this piece is great for layering" or "I would love to layer this over this"?? Probably more times than you can count with your fingers AND toes.

But layering truly is a way to take pieces in your closet that have been worn to death and turn them into fresh new outfits. It's wicked useful, especially if you're low on money but still want to have fun with styling and creating different ensembles.

The whole concept of layering is probably best used during the Fall and Winter when you want to stay toasty and warm but not look like an oversized marshmallow that's about to combust (You know...those 50 lb jackets that your mom used to force you to wear when you wanted to go play in the snow for fear of catching some deadly cold).

BUT, that totally doesn't mean you can't layer in the warmer months.

To layer in Spring and Summer months, simply use lighter fabrics. Tada.

ANYWAY. Let's get back to what I was saying earlier.

SHEER MAXI DRESSES.
- Awesome for summer because it's freaking hot enough to melt your skin off. But let's keep it classy by wearing a bodycon dress underneath. I especially recommend ones that are strapless just because I think the silhouette looks better but if you're not comfortable with that, then, of course, wear one with straps!

- Wearing a bodycon dress means you can accentuate your figure AND play around with patterns.

- Some maxi dresses can be very flowy and shapeless so by wearing something that really cinches you in, your figure won't be lost. Let's say you are absolutely worried about the dress being TOO wide...wear a belt!

- If you aren't normally comfortable wearing bold patterns or just think it's too much, then wearing it underneath a sheer dress can help tone it down.

Here is an example! (Just for the purpose of visuals, I'll be using all F21 products but you can get things like this virtually anywhere now.)

BODYCON DRESSES
- Ok, scenario #2: You have a crap load of bodycon dresses in all colors and patterns. You're going out. It's girls' night. It's a little breezy but you really don't want to wear anything heavy like a blazer or cardigan. What to do?

- Grab a sheer sleeveless shirt dress or just a shirt tunic and play around with complementary patterns and different hues.

- This can be an alternative to an oversized sweater, which is what I would opt for if it was a winter look.

- If it gets warmer somehow later in the evening, the shirt is sheer and light enough to just stuff it back into your purse or clutch. Easy!

- Summer time is the time for see-through, cropped clothes. I get it. I'm guessing for most of those tops, people like to style it with bandeaus or bustiers or just plain tank tops. Cool.

- But another fun way you can wear them is by layering them over a romper/jumpsuit/playsuit, whatever you call them!

- I especially love wearing cropped shirts over dresses or in this case, rompers for movie dates because it gets cold in there but wearing a sweater is a little impractical if you plan on being outdoors afterward.

- By wearing a romper in a fun floral print or maybe even just a simple polka dot print, you can show off the print AND the back design of the top you're wearing without revealing any excess skin.

Last thing before I go! These tips can be used for other pieces as well. If you're going to the beach and you want to wear your bathing suit ahead of time, an open back shirt plus some denim shorts and you are good to go!

Bodycon skirts are also amazing for layering. Try wearing them under a shorter but fuller skirt! It has a peplum-esque effect!

You get the point.

Probably everyone's first memories of Anne Hathaway were from the Princess Diaries days, where Hathaway turned from a frumpy high school student to a glamorous Genovian princess.

I pretty much died when news came out about her haircut but it looks so amazing on her, nevertheless.

When I saw what she wore for the Batman Premiere on Nylonmag.com, I thought "Wow, Anne Hathaway really can pull anything off and look spectacular in it."

Not to say that the dress isn't pretty. The dress is quite gorgeous and even with the plunging neckline, somehow, it just doesn't look "skanky" or wrong.

Is it just me? She looks tired in the picture, almost a little aged? It could be due to exhaustion or is it the haircut?

Do the Cheetah Girls sound familiar?

Well whether you used to watch them or your kids watched them, Adrienne Bailon, one of the Cheetah-licious Girls, pulled a bad warddrobe choice a few months ago.

During the Escape to Total Rewards event in New York, she walked out with a see-through black and champagne dress.

The first thing I noticed about this dress was her out-in-the-open butt.

It wasn't until the end when I saw that there was a ball of fabric bunched in the front where her nether regions were.

Suffice it to say, other than the leather jacket, I hated this outfit. I can't even comprehend the thought process behind her reasoning for wearing it to a public event. Or any event at all.

Okay, I can understand wanting a little attention.

Maybe she truly loves that dress.

But there are so many things she could have worn to prevent that ...naked look.

#1: Wear nude colored boy shorts.

#2: Wear a skin-colored slip.

#3: Wanna be sexy? Wear a lace skin-colored slip.

There is nothing attractive or good looking about a dress that shows too much.

This stunning piece was created by Hissa Igarashi and Sayuri Marakumi for TWELV magazine.

This gummy sensation weighs twice as much as I do at a whopping 220 lbs...

Now you might be thinking...how did they put all those bears together? Well, each gummy bear was glued onto a vinyl sheet...by hand.

I am floored, not only by the creativity but also the commitment that it must have taken to make this garment.

Bravo! Love it!

Back again with a favorite from this Fall's runways.


Diane von Furstenberg showcases a "hands-on" piece with this fun dress. Somehow, it maintains the chic vibe. I'm guessing it's because of the classic black and white color combo.

The hands featured on this dress add a forbidden and risque feeling to this otherwise conservatively cut piece. It almost reminds me of Schiaparelli and her lobster dress or something to that effect. The element of whimsy but without being too... childish.

And for those of you who don't know who Schiaparelli is, here's a little Wiki action:
Elsa Schiaparelli was an Italian designer and also one of Coco Chanel's greatest rivals. If I had to describe her style, it would definitely be whimsical. Back then, people couldn't really understand nor appreciate some of her designs but I found them quite amusing and I think they'd be a real hit with the hipsters of today.

I have no idea if it's because it's summertime and summer always equals water and beaches but a prominent trend this year has been the ocean print.

Starfishes (no, not Patrick!) and seashells as well as blue and purple tones have been making their appearance in various designer collections for the spring.

I especially love the second one because of how all the different textures mingle together but are bonded by the similar color palette. I also really dig the little feathery bits around the "bra" and the wave-like structures coming around the sides. Gorgeous.

I think that for this trend, it can go from something as simple to a pair of seashell earrings all the way to a glamorous printed dress. It also can tie into the watercolor-y effect that seems to be trendy right now too.

A chiffon maxi dress with the watercolor ocean print would probably be the epitome of summer.

As far as classics go, the LBD is right at the top of the list, along with denim jeans and nude pumps.

Like anything that you buy, these classics can be found at a wide range of prices so don't worry that you won't be able to find one that works for you!

If you're new to the LBD (and most likely, you aren't), it's basically a black dress that flatters your body shape (usually) and has a design that pairs with most occasions. Some people prefer a more fitting type of dress and others that may be body conscious prefer ones that are bit more flowy.

The fabric of the dress will also determine how versatile the dress is. Satin will give it a dressier and more formal vibe while cotton or polyester will probably tone it down, giving it a more informal look.

I would recommend finding one that is a solid color and not anything patterned. Something subtle would be okay if you're trying to find something a little more unique and suited to your tastes. An example would be a lace trim on the straps or maybe an interesting cut in the back.

It's prom season! Although I'm no longer in high school and no longer have the opportunity to attend this event, I know plenty of other people who are still attending prom this year. Even if you aren't going to prom, these dresses will be great for any formal occasion.

Chiffon is probably the best material for a prom dress because you'll be dancing and the temperature will rise indefinitely. Why spend so much money on a dress that will suffocate you and cook you to death under its heavy satin fabric wrath when you can spend (maybe) less on a lightweight dress? Chiffon moves nicely and drapes over the right areas.

Another good thing is that it won't shine (learned from personal experience) in pictures and make certain areas look... unflattering. Last but not least, you can always re-wear it! Satin dresses and other materials are hard to pull off in a casual setting but chiffon dresses are in for this summer! So there shouldn't be any worries about finding the right time to wear your prom dress again and you won't have to cry over the fact that you had to stuff it in the back of your closet, never to be seen again.



Prom dresses now come in a wider selection and people are getting increasingly more creative. I definitely suggest trying the dress on in advance before buying and take a picture as well, to see how the dress looks in photos. A dress that looks good in person may look terrible photographed so beware!

Accessories will depend on your own personal taste but I think going simple and comfortable will be best!

Lastly, here are some things I'd recommend bringing!

1. Chapstick/lip balm: Just in case your lips get dehydrated!
2. Oil blotting sheets: Because you'll get sweaty from dancing and as the night progresses, the oil on your face will build up! Eek!
3. House keys: Well, duh.
4. Cellphone: Remember to charge it well!
5. Cash: For emergencies.
6. Mints: Not gum, because then you'd have to find a place to spit it out later.
7. Eyeliner/other makeup items for touchup: This is purely based on your own needs. I personally just need to touch up on eyeliner sometimes so that's that.
8. Bandaid: Again, for emergencies! And shoes that haven't been broken in! :(

Sounds like a lot but it really isn't! All of these items are relatively small and if you find that you're having trouble putting them all in, use a sandwich bag to store your mints in place of the original box/container it came in. You can also just bring one or two bandaids vs. the entire package. As for the house keys, take them off the ring (if you have excessive keychains). And hopefully, that will save a lot of space!

Hello all of you fashion-fierce readers.

I'm officially going home next Friday. It's almost unreal but I'll be happy to start summer. Which also means, tons of time to post stuff! Yay.

Today, I wanted to share this trend with you guys. I'm sure you all have seen this around and it's not a current trend (well, most trends usually aren't new anyway) but it's just really cute. At first, I wanted to focus on flattering silhouettes because A-line dresses tend to look quite nice on most people. But then I found more and more dresses with the side cut outs and I thought this would be a much more interesting topic.

Some people might not feel totally comfortable with it but I think if it's paired with some sheer black tights, the little cut outs could actually be very seductive... in a subtle way and not a "here's my cleavage" way.

Classy guys, we like keeping things classy here.

I'm also sure there will be people who think that they can't pull it off because they have stomach fat. Not true! I haven't seen anyone do this yet but there are LOADS of body suits that suck ya right in and they come in so many different patterns and colors now. Layering that underneath the dress would give it a cool effect, with the pattern peeping out but still keeping all the goodies settled in.
