Summer Sweatshirt

Summer Sweatshirt by asmallbit featuring rebecca taylor

Personally, I hate wearing sweaters during the summer. The problem is that you're out and about...places indoors have the AC blasting and that chiffon top you decided to wear to tackle the heat outside just can't handle it. I end up feeling way too cold inside...and way too hot outside.

And then what do you do about those breezy summer nights? Sometimes I'll bring a sweater if I know I won't be going home for the entire day but it's annoying to carry it around when you don't want to wear it.

The summer sweatshirt is cute and pretty functional for those situations! Pick one that is slightly cropped and has short sleeves. It'll give you the air you need for when you're outdoors and a bit more substance for when you're dealing with the cold AC. Of course, there are a ton of different ways to dress it up and down. It's a blank canvas.

On the left, I have it paired with casual floral shorts in a pastel yellow color to make it a warmer and more summery outfit. I thought the vans would be a nice touch to keep it relaxed and effortless.

TIP: **If you're still scared of getting chilly and the short sleeves isn't doing it for you, try carrying around a thin tank top or camisole in your purse. They fold up nicely and aren't as bulky. Run to the bathroom and add that layer underneath the sweatshirt and you'll have a bit of extra warmth!**

On the right, I have it paired with silky loose shorts in a bright orange color along with some matching sandals. I think having the silk against the boyish sweatshirt material makes it a lot more feminine and dressier. While the sandals are typically known as a casual shoe, the patent quality of these can help you get away with wearing it to a dinner with friends and family. It's a good outfit choice for people who like staying comfortable but maybe aren't so into wearing dresses as well as those who just need a quick change from their day outfit to night outfit.

There are a million ways to wear this sweatshirt. You can pair it with a circle skirt, high waisted denim shorts, jeans, boyfriend jeans, overalls, etc. It's a versatile piece with so much potential!

Let me know down below how you'd wear it!

The weather has been surprisingly nice these past few days but I'm eagerly awaiting the brisk autumn nights when it's cool enough to wear a sweater but not exactly cold enough to bust out the leather pants and fur jacket.

IMAGINE THIS SCENARIO.

Some boy (or girl) asks you out on a nice fancy dinner date. It's about...upper 60's, low 70's, cloudy, and a little windy. No rain, thank goodness.

There might be AC at the restaurant. Who knows.

So what exactly should you wear that would keep you toasty and goosebump-free while still making sure that you look classy, put together, and tastefully sexy?

Classy: Out to Dinner

Classy: Out to Dinner by asmallbit featuring strappy sandals
As usual, for specific deets, click here.

1. Nothing says warm and casual like a knit sweater.
Q: Why, in this particular outfit, does it look dressier than usual?
A: The color. Because of the cooler and lighter tone grayish blue, this sweater gives off a chic feel.

2. A tight skirt shows off curves! You won't lose your figure, even if the sweater is a little slouchy or oversized.
Q: Why is it so unbearably long?
A: Remember, it may be a little cold outside so a longer skirt will cover more surface area and keep you warmer. Plus, there's something very appealing about "less is more".

3. Minimalist heels in a nude shade will elongate your legs.
Q: Why does it have to be a nude shade?
A: Harsh colors like black or bold colors like royal blue can visually cut off the length of your legs, since the appearance of the color is quite abrupt. A shoe that has a similar color to your skin (and this can be nude, tan, or dark brown) will give the illusion of longer legs. Skinny straps or heels or just minimalist shoes in general tend to have the same visual effect. SO DO NOT FEAR IF YOU THINK THE LONG SKIRT IS GOING TO SWALLOW YOUR LEGS UP.

4. Opt for a gold tone piece of jewelry to warm up the look.
Q: Why is it just one ring?
A: Keeping it simple is a good thing, especially on a date! It shows that you can be a little laidback and also, you won't look like you spent hours and hours overdressing. One piece of jewelry is enough, as long as it packs a punch, in a good way. Plus, the attention of the ring can help move it to the clutch you're holding.

For those of you who were wondering, I was inspired to do this post because of Thepersianbabe on Youtube. I loved how her super long calf-grazing sequin skirt looked on her and used that to try and style it in my own way.

How would you style the skirt? Did you like this outfit? Let me know! I love hearing your thoughts and reading all of your comments :)

On Mondays and Tuesdays, I volunteer at this non profit organization that deals with baby donations (clothes, toys, books, etc.) and I usually like to dress casually and comfortably but still look somewhat presentable.

This look that I put together on Polyvore is based off of what I wore today. The items aren't an exact replica but the elements are similar, which means...

YOU can recreate this look using whatever pieces you already have in your closet. Feel free to incorporate your own style to it as well :)

That's all I've got for today! I hope you all have a fabulous week~

As promised! Here is my yummy Sunday Shoe Porn post!

Because... who doesn't love lusting over ridiculously priced shoes?...

Speaking of shoes, I bought the most perfect pair of flatforms (finally). They were from Sears by a brand called Trend Report. Originally $35, I bought them on sale for $19.99. Tell me that isn't a steal. The straps are comfortable, the height isn't bad at all, and the color is amazingly versatile. Everything I could ask for in a flatform...for 20 bucks. I almost cried.

I'll post a picture of them later when I get a chance to wear them.

For now, please enjoy these wonderful pictures of flats, wedges, and heels~

Alexander McQueen "Suede Skull Loafer" $645

Charlotte Olympia "Wire Heel Platform Sandal" $2395

Casadei "Cutout Platform Sandal" $995

Pour La-Victoire "Suede-Platform Sandal" $250

Reed Krakoff "Slingback Architect Wedge" $795

Lanvin "Metallic Python Wedge Sandal" $1193

Enzo Angiolini "Timga Color Block" $120

Nike "Free Run 3 Running Shoe" $100

Charlotte Olympia "Ankle Strap Pump" $945

Steve Madden "Traisie" $79.95

Not sure if you guys are completely sick of me posting pictures of shoes yet (I hope not!) but I think next time, I will do a post on shoes that I really dislike/can't stand. Look forward to it!

Until then,

H&M shoes have literally blown me away recently. They are just such a great alternative to designer shoes and the more trendier styles floating around.

These in particular caught my eye.

H&M $24.95

Cute, right? I think so.

Don't start pointin' guns at me now, I just wanted to take a really small break from doing homework...

Anyway, I was on Ideeli.com and I basically found a pair of BCBGeneration shoes that I think I'm going to cry from. I can't get over it.

They're on sale for $49.99 down from $89.99 and I am extremely gutted that they don't have my size anymore. {cries}

What are your favorite clothes to wear this spring?

Chiffon and sheer clothing seems to be the #1 trend/hype right now but I'm more into the cropped versions (they look cuter with skirts peeping out underneath!).

Check out my polyvore: http://asmallbit.polyvore.com

When wedges and platforms make babies, flatforms are born!

Lately, I have been completely obsessed with flatforms; they are perfect in every sense. For short people like me, it's the best option. I can get the height I want without the killer foot pains. They're like flats on steroids. Now, for all you fellow shoe lovers, I know that there are ways to make heels feel comfortable and there is a special kind of empowerment that goes along with wearing those 4 to 5 inch feet assassins BUT I'd take flatforms and wedges over heels any day.

For me, comfort has higher precedence over beauty. If I don't feel good, I won't look good. How can you confidently walk down that bumpy sidewalk without fearing that your skinny little heel will get stuck in one of those god forsaken cracks?? I certainly can't. And with that fear, how can I possible exude any confidence?

In terms of trends, I have no idea if flatforms are super popular. I've seen them at H&M and I'm sure there are other variations available elsewhere. But actually, the first time I tried a pair on, I was at a DSW in some tiny plaza. They were from Big Buddha, suede inside and out, and they just rolled across the ground. Completely easy to walk in. It was unbelievable. I fell hopelessly in love.

I honestly think these types of shoes would look amazing with anything. Peplum skirts, maxi dresses, crop tops, floral dresses, silver jewelry, gold jewelry, who cares?? They come in a ton of colors and heights and designs. I just...love them.

What do you think about them? Tacky? Weird? Let me know!

Until next time mon cherie,

I was on Gilt.com, which is basically similar to Hautelook but they tend to sell more expensive higher end items. I find that it's quite difficult to actually buy anything because the prices range in the hundreds, most of the time. But I do enjoy browsing through their inventory.

And you know what I found? The most perfect pair of sandals. I cannot even explain how beautiful these shoes are. I almost want to weep at the fact that I cannot afford these!

Butter: Abalone Thong Sandal $99 instead of retail $235

Oh, I just want to mention, in case you're new to the site, the link above may not work anymore depending on when you're reading this post. Once the items are sold out, they're gone!

Suede may not be the most ideal material for a spring/summer shoe but I actually find that it adds to the luxurious feel. The skinnier "thong" strap also accentuates the foot and is more elegant and chic than a thicker strap. It's almost...sexy...how much of the foot this sandal reveals. And the color? To die for. I have no idea how to label this soft yet bright shade of purple/pink but I'd go so far as to say it's a hybrid between magenta and lavender.

{sigh}

If only I had an extra $98 to spend on these babies.

But college bills need to be paid and textbooks need to be purchased...Hahaha!

Anyway, check out the shoes and buy them before they're sold out (many of the sizes are already gone)! Let me know what you think about them. Like? Dislike?

Until next time my wonderful fashion lovers,
