Hello, all you beautiful people.

I'm back with another wardrobe tip and this time, I'll be discussing textures (not to be confused with patterns).

Everyone's style varies. Sometimes, it can't be stuffed into one ominous category of grunge or punk or girly or classy. If you're the type of girl who hordes piles and piles of black or white clothing, then investing in pieces that differ by texture can help liven up an outfit.

The reason I single out black and white is because those colors tend to look very clean and put together when used as the entire color palette of an outfit. Trying this with bolder colors can be overwhelming for day to day wear but please keep in mind that these are just my personal tips and opinions!

By all means, as I mention in all wardrobe tip posts, play by your own rules first!

That being said, the whole texture thing can also be applied if you aren't a monochromatic dresser. Then it would depend mainly on the actual silhouette, texture, and fit of the clothes.

HERE IS AN EXAMPLE WITH AN ALL BLACK WARDROBE

Monochromatic: Mixing Textures

Monochromatic: Mixing Textures by asmallbit featuring a fur collar coat
For specifics, click here.

The foundation is simple: chiffon tank top and leather pants, which everyone and their cats now own. Don't worry if you don't have them, though! I'll talk about alternatives near the end :)

FUR: With the base of the outfit, you already have 2 different fabrics/textures. Adding on a fur anything will instantly give the outfit more depth because the fur is three dimensional and usually has more volume than something thin like chiffon. By using fur, the sheer chiffon can peek through and give a hint of subtle sexiness.

SHOES: Change up the look with a pair of suede shoes to tone down the fur and the leather or opt for leather boots if you choose to omit the fur.

ACCESSORIES: Jewelry can be overlooked sometimes because there can be an excessive focus on color or pattern but those types of accessories can add texture as well! Beading, embroidery, lace, chunky bits...the actual material of the necklace or ring or earrings can make a nice contrast against a plainer outfit.

Mixing Textures: Part II

Click for specifics!

Okay, let's talk about alternatives. Like I said before, everyone dresses based on personal preference and you might not like leather pants or chiffon shirts.

No problem.

This works with t-shirts, corduroy shorts/pants, silky bottoms, furry sweaters, you name it. As long as you keep in mind what type of material each piece is, you can successfully create an intriguing outfit. Remember, balance is important too!

If you're wearing something chunky or fuzzy up top, keep it lighter or sleeker on the bottom for a more streamlined look.

I find that things like velvet or corduroy can be pretty "heavy" when worn as bottoms so pairing them with light cotton shirts/tank tops will definitely help prevent the whole ensemble from becoming too overwhelming.

Just because one piece may be bold on its own, it doesn't mean you can't wear multiple bold pieces. Take the first outfit, for example. The royal blue is bright in color but lacks texture while the skirt has a reptile print and is leather but is completely black. Mixing something like a rainbow sequin tank top with a brown snakeskin pair of shorts would be disastrous because there's too many loud elements going on.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
That's all I have to say about this wardrobe tip. What do you guys think? Are you a fan of wearing lots of different textures or would you rather keep it simple? Let me know down below!
For those of you planning to celebrate July 4th, here are a few outfit ideas that incorporate the Independence Day spirit! These are perfect for sitting on the grass watching fireworks or mingling with friends at a bbq.
July 4th!
July 4th! by asmallbit featuring a friendship bracelet
If you'd like more details about each specific piece of clothing or accessory, please visit my polyvore at asmallbit.polyvore.com!
(From left to right)
OUTFIT #1
a) Super casual! The denim skirt gives it a down-to-earth feel while the tucked in t-shirt and belt still help maintain your womanly silhouette.
b) The cute American flag graphic is slightly faded, making it look worn in and comfortable!
c) The color of the sneakers helps brighten up the look a bit, making it more appropriate for the summertime.
d) If you find that it starts getting chilly at night, throw on a navy cardigan! The color will complement the yellow and the denim perfectly.
e) Star shaped earrings are a cute way to incorporate that aspect of the flag into your outfit if you're opting to wear a plain t-shirt.
OUTFIT #2
a) This outfit was inspired by the colors of the flag but rather than using the normal red and royal blue, I chose colors that were more summery and more in trend.
b) The polka dot pattern gives the look a bit more umf and is also kind of retro.
c) To pull the outfit together, I added polka dot flats but using a polka dot pattern that's subtler and has a solid color tip to mimic the match between the polka dot top and solid color shorts.
d) To bring out the white dots in the blouse, I chose pearl earrings.
OUTFIT #3
a) Kind of a stretch from the original American flag theme but I decided to use striped shorts in a light lavender color to represent the stripes on the flag.
b) The denim corset creates a nice solid contrast to the lighter colored shorts.
c) Since it's denim, the corset looks less risque and can be worn to many events but you can always throw something over it if you think it's a bit too inappropriate for family events.
d) I opted for JC wedges because they elongate the legs and the mint color complements the lavender quite nicely. To me, this color combo is supposed to be reminiscent of the red and blue found traditionally in the flag but that might be a little too off?
e) I added a bracelet that did have the traditional colors, just in case it didn't look patriotic enough! :)
OUTFIT #4
a) Crop tops are the epitome of summer and this pinkish reddish colored one is a great option for those who like it simple.
b) Instead of going for stripes, I decided to pair this solid tee with a small polka dot skirt that has bows going down the front. It's extremely girly!
c) Nude pumps with an ankle strap will elongate your legs and make it a little easier to walk while the peeptoe adds a feminine touch to the outfit.
d) The outfit can't be complete without matching bow earrings, of course!
OUTFIT #5
a) This last outfit is one of my favorites because it does use the classic red, white, and blue color combo.
b) I wanted it to look a bit edgier so I thought the silver skull ring would work nicely.
c) The silver tone of the jewelry matches the silver hardware on the shorts.
d) The black wedges bring the bright colors together but I will advise people to be careful when walking in these types of shoes! You can always switch this for black flats!
I sincerely hope you guys enjoyed this post! Be safe and have fun on Independence Day! :)
Until next,
It's prom season! Although I'm no longer in high school and no longer have the opportunity to attend this event, I know plenty of other people who are still attending prom this year. Even if you aren't going to prom, these dresses will be great for any formal occasion.
Chiffon is probably the best material for a prom dress because you'll be dancing and the temperature will rise indefinitely. Why spend so much money on a dress that will suffocate you and cook you to death under its heavy satin fabric wrath when you can spend (maybe) less on a lightweight dress? Chiffon moves nicely and drapes over the right areas.
Another good thing is that it won't shine (learned from personal experience) in pictures and make certain areas look... unflattering. Last but not least, you can always re-wear it! Satin dresses and other materials are hard to pull off in a casual setting but chiffon dresses are in for this summer! So there shouldn't be any worries about finding the right time to wear your prom dress again and you won't have to cry over the fact that you had to stuff it in the back of your closet, never to be seen again.
Prom Season
Prom dresses now come in a wider selection and people are getting increasingly more creative. I definitely suggest trying the dress on in advance before buying and take a picture as well, to see how the dress looks in photos. A dress that looks good in person may look terrible photographed so beware!
Accessories will depend on your own personal taste but I think going simple and comfortable will be best!
Lastly, here are some things I'd recommend bringing!
1. Chapstick/lip balm: Just in case your lips get dehydrated!
2. Oil blotting sheets: Because you'll get sweaty from dancing and as the night progresses, the oil on your face will build up! Eek!
3. House keys: Well, duh.
4. Cellphone: Remember to charge it well!
5. Cash: For emergencies.
6. Mints: Not gum, because then you'd have to find a place to spit it out later.
7. Eyeliner/other makeup items for touchup: This is purely based on your own needs. I personally just need to touch up on eyeliner sometimes so that's that.
8. Bandaid: Again, for emergencies! And shoes that haven't been broken in! :(
Sounds like a lot but it really isn't! All of these items are relatively small and if you find that you're having trouble putting them all in, use a sandwich bag to store your mints in place of the original box/container it came in. You can also just bring one or two bandaids vs. the entire package. As for the house keys, take them off the ring (if you have excessive keychains). And hopefully, that will save a lot of space!
Fingers crossed that this post was helpful~
Until then,
{muah!}
These outfits don't necessarily have to be worn just for dates. They're perfect for hangouts with friends, lunches with your family, and any other occasion you see fit!
I've taken some basic outfits and used various accessories to give the outfit a different "look" depending on what you personally like to wear. Some people tend to dress a little more feminine than others and some really prefer being casual at all times. The types of accessories you choose should also depend on what you and your date plan on doing as well.
Quick Recommendations:
Wear flat shoes and sneakers if you're doing a lot of walking or maybe going to an amusement park. You won't be able to have fun if your feet are hurting!
Likewise, if you know you'll be doing minimal walking, such as spending time at a restaurant or the movies, then you might consider finding accessories that you can feel comfortable wearing in a sitting position for an extended period of time. For me, bracelets can get irritating during the movies because they make sounds when you move. And, in this case, you can definitely wear shoes with a little more height as your feet won't wear out as quickly.
If you're really confident and know you can handle the height, by all means, go for a platform pump! I think this type of shoe is perfect for evening dates and can turn a daytime outfit into a nighttime outfit. If you'd like the height but don't think you can walk around in such a high heel, then wearing boots with a chunky heel might work better for you. :)
This first outfit features an open knit sweater (somewhat cropped) and a bright floral dress as the foundation. Depending on where you live, it could get chilly at night so the sweater will come in handy and it looks really cute when you have the patterned dress peeping out underneath.
Of course, these accessories will look great even without the sweater so play around with the ideas to make it fit your own style!
Summer Date Outfits!
This second outfit is a go-to for me. You can never go wrong with a nice fitting pair of denim jeans and a cute T-shirt. It doesn't expose too much skin (which, I think is a good thing!) and it gives off a very down-to-earth vibe. If that's the kind of look you're going for, then this outfit is perfect for you!
The third outfit features chiffon dresses! One of the biggest trends from last year moving forward into this summer is the chiffon material, whether it be used for a dress, blouse, or skirt. It's lightweight and perfect for those hot summer days. I find that dresses with an A-line are also flattering on many different body shapes and sizes so I'd recommend this option to anyone!
