Admittedly, gingham is not my favorite print/pattern but paired with the right items, it can be a very cute trend for Spring/Summer. If you find one with a neutral color palette, you can treat it as a neutral piece and pair it with bolder colors, making it a surprisingly versatile addition to your wardrobe.

Let's say gingham really isn't your cup of tea. Don't fear!

You can buy accessories with the gingham pattern, such as heels, flats, purse, or a headband. They're a great way to add a casual vibe to your Spring/Summer looks.

Below, I've taken a gingham skirt and styled it three different ways--
an urban retro look, a fashion-forward look, and a going out look.

How To Style: Gingham by jennnngo featuring high heel sandals

OUTFIT #1
  • Highlight your waist and legs by pairing a cropped T-shirt with the gingham mini skirt. It's a young, laid-back look that's perfect for exploring the city.
  • Add a retro, school-girl vibe by pairing it with white sneakers, a backpack, and some hoop earrings.
  • If you want it to look a bit more modern, opt for accessories with modern details like exposed zippers.

OUTFIT #2
  • This is definitely a bolder ensemble, with the bright yellow and the bell sleeves, but it would be stunning for a photoshoot on the blog, brunch at a fancier restaurant, or for a date!
  • Add a clean white crossbody bag and some gold earrings to play off the white and yellow tones of the outfit.
  • Top it off with black mules for a powerful, chic, and feminine touch. It's also a great alternative to your standard stilettos, which can come off more formal.

OUTFIT #3
  • For a girls' night out, pair this skirt with a fitted number. The velvety and satin textures make both the top and the clutch evening-friendly.
  • To amp up the sexy factor, throw on a black choker and sky high strappy heels.
  • Now, if the outfit is too revealing or overdone, feel free to switch out the stilettos for a shorter heel or even a heeled boot. You can also wear a motorcycle jacket for warmth (it adds to the sexy/badass vibes).

How would you style gingham? Is this one of your favorite trends?

Happy Saturday, guys!

It's finally bright and sunny here, I almost can't believe it. Do you guys have any fun weekend plans? Share them down below! Today, I'm showing you my go-to airport outfit and my absolute essentials. My top priority is comfort but I also want to make sure I don't look too sloppy, in case I need to go anywhere right after the flight.

I've traveled a lot in my lifetime and I've learned that the most important things you can bring are things that will keep you hydrated. If you're on a long haul flight, remember to drink lots of water and don't be afraid to slap on a face mask! The air can be so drying and by the end, you feel like a dried up tomato. A face mask or any kind of hydrating lotion will help freshen up your face.

My trick to looking a little more awake without wearing a lot of makeup is to bring a bright lipstick. Works every time!

1. Ribbed Side Slit Cardigan from Loft (click here)

2. Modern Tie-Up Tee from Madewell (click here)

3. Body Shaping Leggings from Zara (click here)

4. Nike Juvenate sneakers in Bright Melon (click here)

5. Pull&Bear Mini Backpack from Asos (click here)

Layering is so crucial. Often, I find myself either really warm or really cold in the airport and on the plane so wearing multiple layers allows me to control how hot or cold I get. Plus, you get the added bonus of looking like you didn't roll out of bed and actually tried to appear decent.

My favorite outfit consists of a T-shirt, cozy cardigan, and leggings. I know. A lot of people have a love-hate relationship with leggings. I think they're fantastic. It stretches with you and keeps you warm. Wearing a longer cardigan to cover the crotch and the buttocks also makes the outfit a little classier. You can choose to wear a fun T-shirt with graphics or patterns or opt for this Madewell one with the tie in the front.

The little details matter! Notice the leggings have zippers on the front. The texture of the cardigan. Even the bag that you bring can add a little something extra. The one that I included is a leather-like backpack with a pink pom (also bc I'm obsessed with poms).

Finally, since everything is in a neutral color, it never hurts to wear a brightly colored pair of sneakers. Comfortable for walking but very stylish.

3. Laneige Water Mask (click here)

4. Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Blushing Nude (click here)

5. Aveeno Active Naturals Daily Moisturizing Lotion (click here)

Hi guys,

I know it's been a while since I've posted anything and I am not trying to make excuses. There are a few things happening right now that have greater importance so I'm focusing on that. But I don't want to leave my blog hanging so today, we are doing another post for the From the Big Screen #FTBS series! By request, I am styling outfits from the movies, Me Before You. I have yet to see it but it looks like an interesting romance movie (which I am always down for!).

Leave it down below or tweet me @asmallbit what movie I should do next :)

I won't bore you guys with long winded explanations but basically, I took inspiration from each of these snippets from the movie to create outfits with a similar feel. Some are more 'accurate' than others. Which one was your favorite?

Hello my dears! I hope you're having a great week!

Today, we're gonna talk about celebrity fashion, specifically denim. Denim is one of those staple materials that gets recycled over the years in a variety of silhouettes and washes. It's versatile and can either be really chic/classy or down-to-earth. Here's a few celeb looks featuring denim and outfits that I created inspired by these looks!

All of these outfits are loosely interpreted but I hope that it gave you some inspiration :) I think spring is a great time to refresh the wardrobe so dig around, find old pieces that you haven't worn in a while, and find new ways to style them!

Hope you enjoyed this post...let me know which outfit was your favorite! Or tweet me @asmallbit :)

I feel so old but is it prom season again already?? It's been like five years since my own prom so I don't know if things have changed nowadays. Prom was my last big hurrah for senior year in high school and if you plan on going, I definitely think it's important to wear what's comfortable for you!

I wore this satin ivory halter dress, oh my goodness. I still shake my head to this day. But prom was fun! So I guess that's all that matters, right?

Here are a few prom looks that may inspire you to experiment with your style. There are, of course, a lot of traditional prom dresses in department stores but I think some of these more quirky outfits can help you really stand out on your special night :)

~~~~~~~
Prom 2016 #1
Prom 2016 #1 by asmallbit featuring a midi skirt
Daisy Pink
Wearing separates can be super comfortable, especially if you plan on moving around! I think it's also a cost-effective approach to buying a prom dress since you can probably re-wear the pieces again for another event. This first look is a mix of classy and colorful. The black adds a formal touch while the bright pink gives a nod to spring vibes.
Prom 2016 #2
Prom 2016 #2 by asmallbit featuring a moisturizing lipstick
Lavender Bliss
Pastel colors are really girly and pretty especially if you plan on taking pictures outdoors, with nature as the backdrop. This is also another option where you can re-wear your dress to another event and style it different ways. Super cute, super fresh, and perfect for prom.
Prom 2016 #3
Prom 2016 #3 by asmallbit featuring a flower mirror
Red Hot
Red is one of those colors that screams HEY LOOK AT ME but in a good way, of course. If you like bold colors or you want to make a statement on the dance floor, this is the outfit for you! I added nude shades to tone down the red so you can look stylish and not like a stop sign. Bonus: red looks amazing in pictures, especially if you have a nice tan + a pop of red, either a bowtie or tie, for your date would round out the whole outfit.
Prom 2016 #4
Prom 2016 #4 by asmallbit featuring a nail polish
Royal Blue
Last but not least, if you prefer cooler colors, this look is for you! I think blue can be a color that looks good on everyone and it has a mysterious vibe to it, too. I paired it with mainly black accessories to maintain a formal atmosphere but this would also look great with rose gold to add warmth. Since the actual dress is so simple, definitely dress it up with an embellished clutch and to-die-for heels!
~~~~~~~

Which look was your favorite? Did you go to prom and what did you wear that night? I'd love to hear your stories!

Hello dears~ How has your week been so far? We are so close to the weekend!! As promised, I have returned with another post for the From The Big Screen genre. This time, by request, I decided to style outfits based on some of the movie posters and scenes from The Divergent Series: Allegiant. I haven't actually watched this movie but I know it's pretty popular with the younger crowd. That being said, it was really difficult finding wearable outfits to interpret from the movie. Let me know how you would have styled things differently or if you have any other movie suggestions for the next post, please leave it below! Or Tweet me suggestions @asmallbit using the hashtag #FromTheBigScreen.

These are all loose interpretations of the outfits featured in the movie. The main idea is to take bits and pieces and make it applicable for your own wardrobe. So here, I've actually included outfits for the male and female character; two white dresses styled in a modern, funky way and in a classier, demure way as well as a basic, down-to-earth look for the guy. I would say to make the guy's outfit more current by adding a bomber jacket and choosing a slimmer fit for the pants. This way, it keeps the roughness but appears less undone.

How can you not love these outfits? It's all-black everything! Or that's how I wanted to style it. In the poster, her clothing actually looks a lot more worn out so the color might not be black. It seems a bit navy to me. However, I wanted to maintain this strong and take-on-the-world attitude with the outfits so I chose black. The one on the left is closer to what she's wearing but the one on the right is a sexier version of that. I could see this being a fun look for clubbing! Or throw on a leather jacket and it becomes just a very cool go-out-with-the-girls outfit.

In this last pairing, I decided not to include the pants because it's a bit hard to see exactly what she's wearing. You could wear any of these with a nice trouser or skinny pant. You could honestly even get away with a black body-con skirt. The outfit on the right is the most work appropriate outfit and it becomes increasing casual as you move to the left. I love that all of these outfits have a very powerful feeling to them and it makes sense, given the theme of the movie.

Hello my dears! Are you all having a wonderful weekend? If anyone is having a yummy brunch, please snap a picture and tag me on Twitter @asmallbit...I love seeing food photos!

Today, I'm starting a new series (yes, another one, I know. I'm working on organizing and keeping track of all of them!) called From the Big Screen where I style outfits based on specific movies. If you have any requests for movies, please leave it in the comments below and I'll try to feature it in the next post!

How To Be Single came out not too long ago and I'm ashamed to say that I still haven't watched it yet. I really enjoyed Rebel Wilson's acting in Pitch Perfect so I hoped this movie would bring the same kind of laughter. It's currently on my list of movies to watch (it's a long list...) but in the meantime, I'll settle for Google images of movie clips.

That being said, here are a few outfits I styled based on some of the moments in the movie as well as the movie poster. Enjoy!

~~~~~~~
How To Be Single (1)
How To Be Single (1) by asmallbit featuring a mini skirt
From left to right
1. SIMPLE AND PURPLE: By pairing a sleeveless tank with a bit of a sheen and a softer suede skirt, the contrast makes this monochromatic outfit much more interesting. Pair with booties to balance out the amount of skin shown.
2. SKIN HUGGING: To emphasize the smallest part of the waist, pairing a peplum top with a fitted bodycon skirt is a perfect going-out ensemble! Don't forget the drinks and bright red heels to pack a punch.
3. PLAYFUL SUMMER: An orange romper can be intimidating to wear, since it's plain but bright. Pair with fun sunglasses to balance and chunky black heels to ground the outfit.
4. CASUAL DENIM: For a toned down look, pair a beautiful royal blue blouse with darker jeans and top it off with brown boots for added softness.
How To Be Single (2)
How To Be Single (2) by asmallbit featuring black sandals
1. CLASSIC CHIC: This is probably the closest recreation of the movie outfit. Keeping the boxy T-shirt silhouette and paired with an A-line gingham skirt produces a classic streamlined look. To further elevate it, pair with a tote bag (cheeky graphic optional).
2. POWERHOUSE: I love how the maxi skirt and strappy heel combo can create a very powerful look, like you're ready to take on the world. It's very feminine without showing too much skin.
3. THROWBACK: My personal favorite take is this last outfit. By incorporating a similar but larger sized cross pattern in the oversized sweater and then pairing a suede skirt with thigh highs, it becomes a mod look. Very playful. Slightly innocent. Slightly risque.
How To Be Single (3)
How To Be Single (3) by asmallbit featuring black flats
1. UPSCALE BOLD: By eliminating any patterns in both the jacket and the top, it becomes a very sleek outfit, great for work or brunch! Switch up the heels if you want a more laid-back feel.
2. FASHION FORWARD: Personally, I think this is a great outfit for someone who is interning at a fashion or advertising company. It's bright, fun, and very wearable. The print makes it a bit less serious while the cut and design of the jacket makes it more business appropriate.
3. SPRING DATE: A flowy white dress with a refreshing yellow blazer makes it perfect for a lovely spring date. It's just dressy enough so you can get away with pretty much anything you decide to do that day (maybe not rock climbing but most else is okay!). Show your charms with quirky earrings.
How To Be Single (4)
How To Be Single (4) by asmallbit featuring NIKE
1. HIGH SCHOOL SWEETHEART: To me, this is a very youthful outfit. It's sporty but the denim skirt really gives it a school girl vibe.
2. JUST GOT HERE: This is the closest interpretation of the movie look. Minimizing the skin exposure by choosing a longer pant-version of overalls can give it a relaxed feel while maintaining femininity. If the sports bra is still too much, throw on your favorite hoodie. It's slouchy, comfy, but still fashion forward.
3. LIGHT AND BUBBLY: Pairing pastel pieces with lighter washed overalls makes it great for spring or summer. This is something I'd wear to the beach or the park. Tie in the color of the sports bra with colored sneakers to make it a bit more cohesive.
~~~~~~~

What did you guys think of this post? I had a ton of fun putting these outfits together and I can't wait to continue this series!

Hello lovelies, how has your weekend been so far? We're back to the third installment of the Runway to Real Life series where I style everyday, wearable outfits based on runway looks. This time, we're focusing on the Spring 2016 Couture collections, including Zuhair Murad, Valentino, Elie Saab, and Alexandre Vauthier. Leave it down below which designer is your favorite and I'll try to add it in the next Runway to Real Life post :)

~~~~~~~~
[ZM S2016 Look 1]
Zuhair Murad Spring 2016 Inspo
Zuhair Murad Spring 2016 Inspo by asmallbit featuring a leather bodycon skirt
I styled three different outfits based on certain elements in this first look, like the floral detailing, lace-like texture, white base, structure, black belt, strappy shoes, and sparkly hair decorations. For outfit #1, the fitted lace top mimics the upper part of the designer's ensemble, with a looser interpretation of the skirt. To add a bit of black for contrast, I chose black strappy heels and then finished off with a lace clutch to dress it up. Outfit #2 is a more casual look, with a white denim skirt and flats. To make it more interesting, I included some flower earrings and a vintage leather crossbody bag. The last outfit is a bit in-between. The lace sweater tones down the dressy skirt and shoes while the emerald green flower earrings add a bit of color.
[V S2016 Look 59]
Valentino Spring 2016 Inspo
Valentino Spring 2016 Inspo by asmallbit featuring a j.crew vest
To recreate this look, I chose a lot of beige, salmon, pink, as well as greys and blacks. Although this look was very soft and flowy, I did pick some pieces with a more structured feel because they may be easier to find (like a fitted dress or blazer vest). On the far left, I have the most formal outfit, with the tie and sheer skirt as well as the long blazer vest. In the middle is my favorite outfit: a cropped turtleneck with long, wide pants to mimic the flow of the designer's piece. On the far right is a glammed up version of the look, with a bright colored dress and the softness of a fur vest. I added a light scarf to create a similar feel to the tie/bow feature in the designer look.
[ES S2016 Look 31]
Elie Saab Spring 2016 Inspo
Elie Saab Spring 2016 Inspo by asmallbit featuring a leaves engagement ring
This look has a distinctive princess and fairytale feel to it. I tried to implement that vibe into each of the outfits. With the first one being the most formal and the fanciest, I piled on the diamonds, layered a fitted tee under the sleeveless dress for a more covered look, and added sky high black heels. For the next look, I tried to tone it down with a pastel purple maxi and a casual striped crop top. This is a very fun outfit for Spring and you probably have something similar in your closet already! The last one is what I would call an urban princess. It's got the glitz and glam but with a down-to-earth element with the Nike sneakers. It is also the closest to the designer's piece in that it has a very cool tone bluish grey as the foundation.
[AV S2016 Look 1]
Alexandre Vauthier Spring 2016 Inspo
Alexandre Vauthier Spring 2016 Inspo by asmallbit featuring suede boots
By far, this is my favorite set. All-black outfits are such a weakness of mine! I especially love how sexy each of these outfits are, with the addition of the black boots. It's a bit hard to see the details of each look but the one on the far left is the closest to the designer's look. It fully covers the belly and leaves just a hint of skin where the thighs are. To amp up the outfit, I chose leather thigh highs to match the leather cuffs on the sleeves of the blazer. The middle ensemble shows the most skin, with the mini tank, skort, and ankle boots. To add some roughness and to cover a bit of skin, I picked a black moto-style jacket. Finally, for a sweeter look, I paired a loose knit sweater with a black denim skirt and suede thigh highs. It's a fun mix of innocent and sexy and my personal fave styling.
~~~~~~~~

That's it for Part 3 of the Runway to Real Life series. Leave it below: Which outfit did you like the most? What designer would you like featured in the next post? Thanks again for stopping by :)
