Hello and happy weekend!

I've been MIA the past two weeks because I was recovering from having all four of my wisdom teeth taken out. Such an unpleasant experience but thankful that it's over with.

So many exciting things happening now though. Walking commencement in a week. Starting a new job soon. It's going to be crazy!

Lately, I've been really into the whole 9-picture setup and inspiration board style post so I'm thinking of doing more of those. This week, I wanted to come back with an inspiration board for Pantone's Color of the Year: Greenery!

Kind of the perfect color to describe this year. Basically, trying to get a fresh start, having time to rejuvenate, etc. I think it's a beautiful color, in food, home, and fashion. Personally, I love having this color in accents rather than as the main color palette but it can be an interesting alternative to emerald green or other bold classic colors like red and navy.

What do you think about Pantone's Color of the Year?

Happy Saturday, guys!

Have your weekends been awesome? Mine's off to a pretty good start. Dreading getting my wisdom teeth taken out on Monday but happy that my sister is home for the weekend.

So one of my goals for this year is to move out into my own place and that goal has spawned this crazy obsession with home decor and interior design. I mean, I look at my Instagram and Pinterest feed and it's like Elle Decor magazine threw up. If it's not fluffy pillow and giant plants, it's rose gold and copper accents.

I've always been a big fan of like a modern farmhouse look but lately?

Scandinavian design has been tugging on my heartstrings. Gorgeous. Simple. Homey.

What are your favorite interior styles? Any tips on finding the best deals on trendy pieces?

All white spaces are so in right now but personally, it's a little too 'clean' looking for me. I love the idea of incorporating colors like blue, pink, or grey to add character to all-white. These nine photos are *such* goals for me right now!

#1
I have no idea what these are called but they're kind of like...if a porch swing had a baby with a hammock? I think this is such an amazing seating alternative.
You can find some like it: here and here.

Is there anything more stunning than an all white bathroom with marble countertops? I love the little bit of green that breaks up the space (yay plants!).

#3
There's something about that bold blue with the shades of light pink and grey that make this living space so dreamy. It's bright but not in a hurts-my-eyes kind of way.

A spacious closet? Don't mind if I do. Color coordinating your clothes creates such a satisfying visual when you first walk into your closet. Plus, it just makes sense- you will always find what you're looking for.

These vases or containers (what are they called?!) are to die for! So simple...just a clear rectangular shape with thin black lines to carve out a space on your coffee table with whatever you want to highlight! Candles? Check. Decorative bobbles? Check.
You can find similar ones: here.

Pink is probably one of my favorite colors (though sadly, not my boyfriend's). When I do move out, I already know my home will be a thousand shades of pink (don't tell him). But going off that geometric look again, the legs on that coffee table are crazy amazing. It just looks very light compared to a table with, for example, solid wood legs.
You can find a similar one: here.

#7
This is pretty similar to the previous one but with a couple of modifications, you can see that they give off a different vibe. The previous one looks more modern and sophisticated because of the darker tones with the blacks and dark greys. This one, on the other hand, uses warmer wood and salmon tones.

#8
I love the idea of a mattress on the floor because it has such a *chill* feeling. I also think it's a great way to use your space and make the ceilings feel a bit higher!
- Original Pin -

#9
No secret, I love rose gold and copper anything. I know it became trendy a while ago but I still adore it. It's the more sophisticated version of pink. When you pair it with dark, leafy plants and big white spaces, it just looks so chic.

What is the first thing you think about before you go to bed and the first thing you think about when you wake up?

For me, I tend to think a lot of what ifs and agonize over the fact that I even have to get out of bed every morning. That kind of negativity, though, can set your mood for the rest of the day. It's not healthy and it's not a happy way to live.

Instead, if you think at least one happy thought in the morning and one at night, you are setting the tone for how your day starts, goes, and ends. You may still come across some bad luck-- getting fired, stepping on gum, making a mistake on a test. But if you end the day focused on that bad energy, you'll end up forgetting any of the good stuff that may have happened as well.

Okay so you stepped in gum that day. You also found $5 in your pants pocket and someone complimented you on your hair. Rather than celebrating those small victories, your mind tunnels only onto the negative.

You have to make a conscious effort.
It's hard but if you train your mind to focus on the positive, rather than the negative, your whole world can change.

Have you ever woken up and felt dissatisfied by the way you look? Have you ever gone to bed reliving a situation that happened earlier that day over and over, wishing things happened differently? Have you ever thought that you weren't good enough? Well, I have. It sucks because deep down, I know I am good enough. I am pretty enough. I am smart enough. I am funny enough. Mistakes happen. Nothing is perfect. Yada yada!

You've heard it before.

Today, I want to share some fresh new inspiration with you. Remember them all, or one, or none. Whatever the case, I hope you get something good out of this.

THOUGHT #1
For every moment you feel weak, scared, anxious, or uncertain, there is a potential in you to fight it with courage. The difference between someone who is happy with their life and someone who is not is how often he or she summons that courage.

THOUGHT #2
No one is exactly 100% like you. As a society, we are trained to blend in and accept the 'norm' but who defines what is normal? If you consider that 'norms' are constantly changing, then it only makes sense that you would never fit inside a predetermined bubble. And that is perfectly acceptable.

THOUGHT #3
Life isn't fair and it isn't a movie. You can't predict the future, despite what that tarot card salesman told you. So don't dwell on the worst case scenario and use it as an excuse to never do anything. You also shouldn't expect that everything will always go your way.

THOUGHT #4
People who judge you for your looks do that because that's all they have. A person who truly values their own self worth would never feel the need to compare. So be empowered and know that what you have on the inside far surpasses what you have on the outside. Eventually when we all get old and pruny, all you'll really have left is the essence of who you are (and believe me, everyone is going to want to hang out with the cool grandma with the funny laughs and wild stories).

THOUGHT #5
You control your happiness. Not your friends, your boyfriend, your mom, your third cousin...YOU. Stop playing the victim and start taking control. If you want that dream job, you go after that dream job. If you want to feel loved, give love. If you want people to appreciate you, appreciate others. If you want to be happy, be happy. Because uh, reality check? No one has the time to hand everything to you on a platter.

Hello my dears! I hope you're having a great week!

Today, we're gonna talk about celebrity fashion, specifically denim. Denim is one of those staple materials that gets recycled over the years in a variety of silhouettes and washes. It's versatile and can either be really chic/classy or down-to-earth. Here's a few celeb looks featuring denim and outfits that I created inspired by these looks!

All of these outfits are loosely interpreted but I hope that it gave you some inspiration :) I think spring is a great time to refresh the wardrobe so dig around, find old pieces that you haven't worn in a while, and find new ways to style them!

Hope you enjoyed this post...let me know which outfit was your favorite! Or tweet me @asmallbit :)

Hello dears~ How has your week been so far? We are so close to the weekend!! As promised, I have returned with another post for the From The Big Screen genre. This time, by request, I decided to style outfits based on some of the movie posters and scenes from The Divergent Series: Allegiant. I haven't actually watched this movie but I know it's pretty popular with the younger crowd. That being said, it was really difficult finding wearable outfits to interpret from the movie. Let me know how you would have styled things differently or if you have any other movie suggestions for the next post, please leave it below! Or Tweet me suggestions @asmallbit using the hashtag #FromTheBigScreen.

These are all loose interpretations of the outfits featured in the movie. The main idea is to take bits and pieces and make it applicable for your own wardrobe. So here, I've actually included outfits for the male and female character; two white dresses styled in a modern, funky way and in a classier, demure way as well as a basic, down-to-earth look for the guy. I would say to make the guy's outfit more current by adding a bomber jacket and choosing a slimmer fit for the pants. This way, it keeps the roughness but appears less undone.

How can you not love these outfits? It's all-black everything! Or that's how I wanted to style it. In the poster, her clothing actually looks a lot more worn out so the color might not be black. It seems a bit navy to me. However, I wanted to maintain this strong and take-on-the-world attitude with the outfits so I chose black. The one on the left is closer to what she's wearing but the one on the right is a sexier version of that. I could see this being a fun look for clubbing! Or throw on a leather jacket and it becomes just a very cool go-out-with-the-girls outfit.

In this last pairing, I decided not to include the pants because it's a bit hard to see exactly what she's wearing. You could wear any of these with a nice trouser or skinny pant. You could honestly even get away with a black body-con skirt. The outfit on the right is the most work appropriate outfit and it becomes increasing casual as you move to the left. I love that all of these outfits have a very powerful feeling to them and it makes sense, given the theme of the movie.

Hello my dears! Are you all having a wonderful weekend? If anyone is having a yummy brunch, please snap a picture and tag me on Twitter @asmallbit...I love seeing food photos!

Today, I'm starting a new series (yes, another one, I know. I'm working on organizing and keeping track of all of them!) called From the Big Screen where I style outfits based on specific movies. If you have any requests for movies, please leave it in the comments below and I'll try to feature it in the next post!

How To Be Single came out not too long ago and I'm ashamed to say that I still haven't watched it yet. I really enjoyed Rebel Wilson's acting in Pitch Perfect so I hoped this movie would bring the same kind of laughter. It's currently on my list of movies to watch (it's a long list...) but in the meantime, I'll settle for Google images of movie clips.

That being said, here are a few outfits I styled based on some of the moments in the movie as well as the movie poster. Enjoy!

~~~~~~~
How To Be Single (1)
How To Be Single (1) by asmallbit featuring a mini skirt
From left to right
1. SIMPLE AND PURPLE: By pairing a sleeveless tank with a bit of a sheen and a softer suede skirt, the contrast makes this monochromatic outfit much more interesting. Pair with booties to balance out the amount of skin shown.
2. SKIN HUGGING: To emphasize the smallest part of the waist, pairing a peplum top with a fitted bodycon skirt is a perfect going-out ensemble! Don't forget the drinks and bright red heels to pack a punch.
3. PLAYFUL SUMMER: An orange romper can be intimidating to wear, since it's plain but bright. Pair with fun sunglasses to balance and chunky black heels to ground the outfit.
4. CASUAL DENIM: For a toned down look, pair a beautiful royal blue blouse with darker jeans and top it off with brown boots for added softness.
How To Be Single (2)
How To Be Single (2) by asmallbit featuring black sandals
1. CLASSIC CHIC: This is probably the closest recreation of the movie outfit. Keeping the boxy T-shirt silhouette and paired with an A-line gingham skirt produces a classic streamlined look. To further elevate it, pair with a tote bag (cheeky graphic optional).
2. POWERHOUSE: I love how the maxi skirt and strappy heel combo can create a very powerful look, like you're ready to take on the world. It's very feminine without showing too much skin.
3. THROWBACK: My personal favorite take is this last outfit. By incorporating a similar but larger sized cross pattern in the oversized sweater and then pairing a suede skirt with thigh highs, it becomes a mod look. Very playful. Slightly innocent. Slightly risque.
How To Be Single (3)
How To Be Single (3) by asmallbit featuring black flats
1. UPSCALE BOLD: By eliminating any patterns in both the jacket and the top, it becomes a very sleek outfit, great for work or brunch! Switch up the heels if you want a more laid-back feel.
2. FASHION FORWARD: Personally, I think this is a great outfit for someone who is interning at a fashion or advertising company. It's bright, fun, and very wearable. The print makes it a bit less serious while the cut and design of the jacket makes it more business appropriate.
3. SPRING DATE: A flowy white dress with a refreshing yellow blazer makes it perfect for a lovely spring date. It's just dressy enough so you can get away with pretty much anything you decide to do that day (maybe not rock climbing but most else is okay!). Show your charms with quirky earrings.
How To Be Single (4)
How To Be Single (4) by asmallbit featuring NIKE
1. HIGH SCHOOL SWEETHEART: To me, this is a very youthful outfit. It's sporty but the denim skirt really gives it a school girl vibe.
2. JUST GOT HERE: This is the closest interpretation of the movie look. Minimizing the skin exposure by choosing a longer pant-version of overalls can give it a relaxed feel while maintaining femininity. If the sports bra is still too much, throw on your favorite hoodie. It's slouchy, comfy, but still fashion forward.
3. LIGHT AND BUBBLY: Pairing pastel pieces with lighter washed overalls makes it great for spring or summer. This is something I'd wear to the beach or the park. Tie in the color of the sports bra with colored sneakers to make it a bit more cohesive.
What did you guys think of this post? I had a ton of fun putting these outfits together and I can't wait to continue this series!
Hello lovelies, how has your weekend been so far? We're back to the third installment of the Runway to Real Life series where I style everyday, wearable outfits based on runway looks. This time, we're focusing on the Spring 2016 Couture collections, including Zuhair Murad, Valentino, Elie Saab, and Alexandre Vauthier. Leave it down below which designer is your favorite and I'll try to add it in the next Runway to Real Life post :)
~~~~~~~~

[ZM S2016 Look 1]

Zuhair Murad Spring 2016 Inspo

Zuhair Murad Spring 2016 Inspo by asmallbit featuring a leather bodycon skirt

I styled three different outfits based on certain elements in this first look, like the floral detailing, lace-like texture, white base, structure, black belt, strappy shoes, and sparkly hair decorations. For outfit #1, the fitted lace top mimics the upper part of the designer's ensemble, with a looser interpretation of the skirt. To add a bit of black for contrast, I chose black strappy heels and then finished off with a lace clutch to dress it up. Outfit #2 is a more casual look, with a white denim skirt and flats. To make it more interesting, I included some flower earrings and a vintage leather crossbody bag. The last outfit is a bit in-between. The lace sweater tones down the dressy skirt and shoes while the emerald green flower earrings add a bit of color.

[V S2016 Look 59]

Valentino Spring 2016 Inspo

Valentino Spring 2016 Inspo by asmallbit featuring a j.crew vest

To recreate this look, I chose a lot of beige, salmon, pink, as well as greys and blacks. Although this look was very soft and flowy, I did pick some pieces with a more structured feel because they may be easier to find (like a fitted dress or blazer vest). On the far left, I have the most formal outfit, with the tie and sheer skirt as well as the long blazer vest. In the middle is my favorite outfit: a cropped turtleneck with long, wide pants to mimic the flow of the designer's piece. On the far right is a glammed up version of the look, with a bright colored dress and the softness of a fur vest. I added a light scarf to create a similar feel to the tie/bow feature in the designer look.

[ES S2016 Look 31]

Elie Saab Spring 2016 Inspo

Elie Saab Spring 2016 Inspo by asmallbit featuring a leaves engagement ring

This look has a distinctive princess and fairytale feel to it. I tried to implement that vibe into each of the outfits. With the first one being the most formal and the fanciest, I piled on the diamonds, layered a fitted tee under the sleeveless dress for a more covered look, and added sky high black heels. For the next look, I tried to tone it down with a pastel purple maxi and a casual striped crop top. This is a very fun outfit for Spring and you probably have something similar in your closet already! The last one is what I would call an urban princess. It's got the glitz and glam but with a down-to-earth element with the Nike sneakers. It is also the closest to the designer's piece in that it has a very cool tone bluish grey as the foundation.

[AV S2016 Look 1]

Alexandre Vauthier Spring 2016 Inspo

Alexandre Vauthier Spring 2016 Inspo by asmallbit featuring suede boots

By far, this is my favorite set. All-black outfits are such a weakness of mine! I especially love how sexy each of these outfits are, with the addition of the black boots. It's a bit hard to see the details of each look but the one on the far left is the closest to the designer's look. It fully covers the belly and leaves just a hint of skin where the thighs are. To amp up the outfit, I chose leather thigh highs to match the leather cuffs on the sleeves of the blazer. The middle ensemble shows the most skin, with the mini tank, skort, and ankle boots. To add some roughness and to cover a bit of skin, I picked a black moto-style jacket. Finally, for a sweeter look, I paired a loose knit sweater with a black denim skirt and suede thigh highs. It's a fun mix of innocent and sexy and my personal fave styling.

~~~~~~~~
That's it for Part 3 of the Runway to Real Life series. Leave it below: Which outfit did you like the most? What designer would you like featured in the next post? Thanks again for stopping by :)
Hi guys!
I'm sorry it's been a few weeks since I've made a styling post. The Spring semester has begun and I'm still trying to get back into the swing of things. To explain this post, I actually came across something similar on my Facebook feed. A guy had recreated makeup looks from junk foods, or something to that effect. I was inspired by that to create outfits based on my favorite foods.
As I was editing some of the photos, I realized how much I like warm-colored foods. Ironically, my personal style (and about 90% of my wardrobe) consists of black and grey items. Maybe this will motivate me to venture out??
~~~~~

From left to right, we have kimchi chigae, sushi, and a raspberry donut. Kimchi chigae or kimchi stew is one of my favorite things to eat, especially in the winter time. It's hot and spicy, with a lot of soft textures from the glass noodles to the kimchi to the tofu. Topped with some pepper and green onions and you have a perfect meal alongside some rice! Sushi is another favorite food of mine, particularly anything with spicy tuna in it. And finally, donuts. I don't eat these often but they are realllllly delicious. There's a place near my house called Blackbird Donuts, which specializes in artisanal donuts. They have interesting flavors and the berry one happens to be my favorite.

I've taken elements from each food item and translated it into three different outfits.

Food Outfits

Food Outfits by asmallbit featuring high heel shoes

One: I wanted to incorporate the softness of the stew but also the bold red colors so I chose a loose red tank, paired with wide legged black pants. To mimic the pepper and just to add a down-to-earth vibe, I added the grey sneakers. To pull in that slightly boho look, I chose the flower crown as well as the round sunglasses. Finally, a small green accent in the form of a ring helps add some "green freshness" without clashing too much with the red.

Two: For the sushi, I tried to use multiple shades of pink to mimic the fish. Sushi is usually considered a pricey item, although it doesn't have to be upscale. To recreate that vibe, I used a flowy white dress to represent the rice and picked a fitted pink moto jacket to ground the outfit. For the seaweed that wraps around the sushi, I thought black strappy heels would be the best fit. Finally, for the crunchy texture, I chose a very structured patterned clutch, sticking to the beige and pink tones.

Three: Last but not least, because the donut is a very relaxed but bright item, I pulled together a striped sweater with ripped boyfriend jeans. To make it more playful, I added a donut purse! It added the perfect amount of color. To make the outfit more cohesive, I chose a bright pink lipstick. Although it's simple, it's very much a go-to look.

What's your favorite food in the world?

Bye for now,
Jenn

We're back with the second part of the Runway to Real Life series. They're personally one of my favorite posts to do because it challenges my styling abilities, coming up with wearable outfits that still embody the trends. Let me know which one below is your favorite and how you would style things differently!

All of these are based on looks from Spring 2016 shows. I know it's only December but since the designs are out, I thought I'd give you guys a head start on freshening up your wardrobe for the upcoming year :) Enjoy!

~~~
Alexander Wang Inspired
Alexander Wang Inspired by asmallbit featuring black leather watches
From left to right, I created a chic version of the runway design with the black leather jacket, denim midi skirt, and a fishnet white top, finished with strappy black heels to match the similar vibe of the shoes shown. Then I went with a more luxurious feel, using a velvet bomber jacket, beige turtleneck, and a tighter fitted skirt. Instead of a brown belt, I chose a watch with a brown leather strap. Finally, I decided to go with a sporty, laid-back look with a classic sport jacket, a shimmery T-shirt to offset the casual vibes, and a modern A-line denim skirt with sneaker wedges.
Emilio Pucci Inspired
Emilio Pucci Inspired by asmallbit featuring an essie nail polish
The key thing to remember is that these are all INSPIRATIONS! The fun part isn't replicating the look but recreating it to fit your own style. So here, I've taken elements like the pops of red, the sequins, and the white pants to develop 3 outfits: classy office, modern chill, and glam.
Iro Inspired
Iro Inspired by asmallbit featuring black false eyelashes
First up, we have a contemporary look, followed by a more feminine outfit. Finally, I added a bit of a twist to the last one, with a caged neckline rather than a lace-up and paired it with floral pants instead of a skirt. It's a bolder look, definitely more suitable for the club or a night out!
Marissa Webb Inspired
Marissa Webb Inspired by asmallbit featuring a white purse
This is personally my favorite one. I've put together a look using similar colors but without the vest to keep it light for spring. Then I decided to create an outfit that appears the most similar to the designer's. Finally, I thought I'd include a look that is best worn when it's still a bit chilly outside. I think army green and light pink is such an unexpected combo but super pretty for spring!
There you have it! Which one was your fave?? Leave it down below!
Bye for now,
Jenn
