Hello my dears! I hope you're having a great week!

Today, we're gonna talk about celebrity fashion, specifically denim. Denim is one of those staple materials that gets recycled over the years in a variety of silhouettes and washes. It's versatile and can either be really chic/classy or down-to-earth. Here's a few celeb looks featuring denim and outfits that I created inspired by these looks!

Hello lovelies, how has your weekend been so far? We're back to the third installment of the Runway to Real Life series where I style everyday, wearable outfits based on runway looks. This time, we're focusing on the Spring 2016 Couture collections, including Zuhair Murad, Valentino, Elie Saab, and Alexandre Vauthier. Leave it down below which designer is your favorite and I'll try to add it in the next Runway to Real Life post :)

~~~~~~~~
[ZM S2016 Look 1]
Zuhair Murad Spring 2016 Inspo
Zuhair Murad Spring 2016 Inspo by asmallbit featuring a leather bodycon skirt
I styled three different outfits based on certain elements in this first look, like the floral detailing, lace-like texture, white base, structure, black belt, strappy shoes, and sparkly hair decorations. For outfit #1, the fitted lace top mimics the upper part of the designer's ensemble, with a looser interpretation of the skirt. To add a bit of black for contrast, I chose black strappy heels and then finished off with a lace clutch to dress it up. Outfit #2 is a more casual look, with a white denim skirt and flats. To make it more interesting, I included some flower earrings and a vintage leather crossbody bag. The last outfit is a bit in-between. The lace sweater tones down the dressy skirt and shoes while the emerald green flower earrings add a bit of color.
[V S2016 Look 59]
Valentino Spring 2016 Inspo
Valentino Spring 2016 Inspo by asmallbit featuring a j.crew vest
To recreate this look, I chose a lot of beige, salmon, pink, as well as greys and blacks. Although this look was very soft and flowy, I did pick some pieces with a more structured feel because they may be easier to find (like a fitted dress or blazer vest). On the far left, I have the most formal outfit, with the tie and sheer skirt as well as the long blazer vest. In the middle is my favorite outfit: a cropped turtleneck with long, wide pants to mimic the flow of the designer's piece. On the far right is a glammed up version of the look, with a bright colored dress and the softness of a fur vest. I added a light scarf to create a similar feel to the tie/bow feature in the designer look.
[ES S2016 Look 31]
Elie Saab Spring 2016 Inspo
Elie Saab Spring 2016 Inspo by asmallbit featuring a leaves engagement ring
This look has a distinctive princess and fairytale feel to it. I tried to implement that vibe into each of the outfits. With the first one being the most formal and the fanciest, I piled on the diamonds, layered a fitted tee under the sleeveless dress for a more covered look, and added sky high black heels. For the next look, I tried to tone it down with a pastel purple maxi and a casual striped crop top. This is a very fun outfit for Spring and you probably have something similar in your closet already! The last one is what I would call an urban princess. It's got the glitz and glam but with a down-to-earth element with the Nike sneakers. It is also the closest to the designer's piece in that it has a very cool tone bluish grey as the foundation.
[AV S2016 Look 1]
Alexandre Vauthier Spring 2016 Inspo
Alexandre Vauthier Spring 2016 Inspo by asmallbit featuring suede boots
By far, this is my favorite set. All-black outfits are such a weakness of mine! I especially love how sexy each of these outfits are, with the addition of the black boots. It's a bit hard to see the details of each look but the one on the far left is the closest to the designer's look. It fully covers the belly and leaves just a hint of skin where the thighs are. To amp up the outfit, I chose leather thigh highs to match the leather cuffs on the sleeves of the blazer. The middle ensemble shows the most skin, with the mini tank, skort, and ankle boots. To add some roughness and to cover a bit of skin, I picked a black moto-style jacket. Finally, for a sweeter look, I paired a loose knit sweater with a black denim skirt and suede thigh highs. It's a fun mix of innocent and sexy and my personal fave styling.
~~~~~~~~

That's it for Part 3 of the Runway to Real Life series. Leave it below: Which outfit did you like the most? What designer would you like featured in the next post? Thanks again for stopping by :)

Hi guys!

I'm sorry it's been a few weeks since I've made a styling post. The Spring semester has begun and I'm still trying to get back into the swing of things. To explain this post, I actually came across something similar on my Facebook feed. A guy had recreated makeup looks from junk foods, or something to that effect. I was inspired by that to create outfits based on my favorite foods.

As I was editing some of the photos, I realized how much I like warm-colored foods. Ironically, my personal style (and about 90% of my wardrobe) consists of black and grey items. Maybe this will motivate me to venture out??

~~~~~
From left to right, we have kimchi chigae, sushi, and a raspberry donut. Kimchi chigae or kimchi stew is one of my favorite things to eat, especially in the winter time. It's hot and spicy, with a lot of soft textures from the glass noodles to the kimchi to the tofu. Topped with some pepper and green onions and you have a perfect meal alongside some rice! Sushi is another favorite food of mine, particularly anything with spicy tuna in it. And finally, donuts. I don't eat these often but they are realllllly delicious. There's a place near my house called Blackbird Donuts, which specializes in artisanal donuts. They have interesting flavors and the berry one happens to be my favorite.
I've taken elements from each food item and translated it into three different outfits.
Food Outfits
Food Outfits by asmallbit featuring high heel shoes
One: I wanted to incorporate the softness of the stew but also the bold red colors so I chose a loose red tank, paired with wide legged black pants. To mimic the pepper and just to add a down-to-earth vibe, I added the grey sneakers. To pull in that slightly boho look, I chose the flower crown as well as the round sunglasses. Finally, a small green accent in the form of a ring helps add some "green freshness" without clashing too much with the red.
Two: For the sushi, I tried to use multiple shades of pink to mimic the fish. Sushi is usually considered a pricey item, although it doesn't have to be upscale. To recreate that vibe, I used a flowy white dress to represent the rice and picked a fitted pink moto jacket to ground the outfit. For the seaweed that wraps around the sushi, I thought black strappy heels would be the best fit. Finally, for the crunchy texture, I chose a very structured patterned clutch, sticking to the beige and pink tones.
Three: Last but not least, because the donut is a very relaxed but bright item, I pulled together a striped sweater with ripped boyfriend jeans. To make it more playful, I added a donut purse! It added the perfect amount of color. To make the outfit more cohesive, I chose a bright pink lipstick. Although it's simple, it's very much a go-to look.
What's your favorite food in the world?
Bye for now,
Jenn
Sometimes I look at the gorgeous pieces from the runway and think...it's beautiful but how am I supposed to find something like that without spending thousands of dollars? Let's be real. We know how inspired designers can be and the extent of their wacky creations...they're not always the most wearable trends.
Today, I'm going to share a couple of looks that I loved from the Fall 2015 shows. I'll take you through how to style pieces from your own closet to recreate these in a more practical way.
~~~

Gucci Inspired Looks

Gucci Inspired Looks by asmallbit featuring zipper boots

Tip: Never take it literally! The Gucci look is a bright colored sweater with feminine but quirky embellishments paired with a lace skirt. Recreate this look with a semi cropped sweater, either a bold color or a patterned one, and match it with a easier silhouette like skater skirts in a lace material. Finish with a cute beret or go for a statement necklace instead.

Giambattista Valli Inspired

Giambattista Valli Inspired by asmallbit featuring white sneakers

From left to right, I have a retro look, a casual look, and a chic look...all incorporating stripes! You can really play around with a structured or totally loose dress. If you're planning on being out and about, try a two-piece outfit. Throw on a super cute headband on bad hair days and you've got yourself a simple but put-together ensemble.

Rodarte Inspired

Rodarte Inspired by asmallbit featuring a long coat

It wouldn't be a Fall inspired styling without some darker colors. This runway look from Rodarte is perfect for colder weather and can be recreated for a cool office outfit. Take your must have white blouse and pair with a camel colored blazer with burgundy leather pants if you want exactly the same look. You can also mix it up by opting for a softer sweater with a similar color palette or choose a coat with a similar checkered pattern.

Bouchra Jarrar Inspired

Bouchra Jarrar Inspired by asmallbit featuring Vince Camuto

One of my favorite pieces from the Bouchra Jarrar show was the flowy, bluish lavender skirt. How gorgeous! Now I know not everyone is going to have a skirt in this exact shade. The solution is to incorporate the color in other ways like accessories. Pair a leather vest with a turtleneck for a cozy look and add a loose skirt...you will look so effortless! Finish with either some oxfords or sneakers to roam around town.

Those are my stylings for the Fall 2015 Runway. Tell me which one you liked the most!

Bye for now,
Jenn

Boyfriend's Closet

Boyfriend's Closet by asmallbit featuring a black skirt

If you're feeling a bit blah about your clothing choices, you should consider taking a peek into your boyfriend/brother/dad's closet! I think menswear inspired outfits are always really chic and it can be an unexpected twist to your everyday style. I'm not telling you to strap on a bowtie or wear those horrific cargo shorts that your dad still thinks is trendy...

But! You can definitely play around with graphic t-shirts, white button-ups, and flannels. These are pretty unisex pieces, and that's why you have a bit of freedom to work it into what you already own.

Here, I've styled three different outfits while maintaining a feminine shape and look. The key is balance!!

1. If you're a bit of a tomboy or just like an edgier look, opt for your man's leather jacket or band tee. Either way, it will spice up those A-line skirts. Finish off with a red lip plus messy curls and you're ready to go.

2. Throw on his crisp white shirt as a dress (if you're short enough) or you can purchase one that's cut for women. Pair it with nude heels to lengthen the legs for a sensual vibe. Take it to the next level by leaving your hair down and putting on a nice pair of sunglasses. This will tone down the bareness of the legs but also give you that "I woke up like this" look.

3. Boyfriend jeans have been a big hit for a while now. You can either go with that or wear your favorite skinny jeans to keep the shape of your legs. Then, pair with a darker colored flannel for a masculine feel. TIP! You can also tie it around your waist for a more casual look. Put on those strappy red heels to add color and balance out all the loose layers. I'd recommend a messy braid and natural/glowing makeup for the final touches.

Tada! There you have it. Super easy ways to wo(man) up. Let me know: which look was your favorite?

Bye for now,
Jenn

Casual Fridays

Casual Fridays by asmallbit featuring long shoulder bags

I know. It's only Monday and I'm already thinking about Friday but don't tell me you aren't thinking it too! So let's talk about Casual Fridays and what to wear if you're having trouble mixing work and play.

Now if you work in a corporate environment, the dress code can be strict to enforce formality within the workplace. If you work in a more creative setting, the dress code can be loosened to adapt to the individuality of its employees. Some companies will allow you to ditch the tie and heels on what is known as Casual Fridays. For others, everyday is Casual Friday.

So how do you incorporate work-friendly pieces with laid-back vibes?

In the interest of welcoming spring (whenever that may be in New England), I have decided to play around with a pastel color palette and lighter fabrics. My main focus for this post is the blouse. It's a key player in professional wear because with the right cut, it can flatter most body types. The blouse is also comfortable when flowy and can easily adapt itself to other styles. So whether you're wearing it for work, drinks, or a chill lunch date, the blouse will get the job done.

On the left, I paired a sleeveless layered blouse with standard khaki tailored pants to maintain comfort but still emit a professional tone. To jazz it up, I added some oxfords with a bit of shine but can be switched out for colorful floral heels after work. This really helps add dimension to an otherwise plain outfit. To keep a balance with the bold colors, I opted for a grey handbag with gold hardware that screams "I am serious business". For makeup, neutral eyes with a bold lip to match the heels will pull the entire look together.

On the right, I created a more feminine outfit but with similar elements from the other ensemble. The wide skirt adds enough length to make it work-appropriate but the light floral pattern gives it more character. To let the outfit speak for itself, I chose neutral colored heels, which also helps with lengthening the legs. Because there is quite a bit of volume in the lower half, I added a cropped fitted blazer to streamline the top half. From there, it was about adding little touches of warmth with the rose gold watch and mauve pink lipstick.

The key to dressing for a more casual work environment is to incorporate at least one tailored item into the outfit. It could be heels, a blazer, a peplum top, pants, skirt, whatever. As long as you have a piece with some structure to it, the whole outfit elevates to being professionally acceptable. From there you can play with adding color, texture, print, or layers to bring out your personal style.

What is YOUR go-to outfit for Casual Fridays? If you don't work at a company that has Casual Fridays, what do you wear to work? Let me know down below!

Can anyone else believe it's May already? I literally felt like I had just returned to school from winter break and now I'm already done with spring semester. Unbelievable.

In other news, our class is putting on the annual fashion show that our college has and I have the jitters and some minor anxiety about how it's all going to go down. Hopefully, everything runs smoothly and kind of works out but I am so paranoid right now that something is going to go wrong like missing bra straps or the microphone not turning on. Ack. Does anyone else ever have those weird paranoia moments?? Because I feel like I'm experiencing those all the time and it might just be due to me being crazy but it definitely can't just be me...

Also, the rare occasion when I actually dress up... all the people backstage are going to be in the finale of the show so I have decided to pull out my pleather skirt for all to see.

Anyway, this post is probably super pointless and the photo quality is unbearable but I thought I'd just stop by to say hi. Thanks as always for taking the time to read this. I really do appreciate it!

This post is going to be a little update and an OOTD. I'm going back to college tomorrow (woohoo??!) so I plan on doing a bit of grocery shopping for snacks and bits like that today as well as packing.

The weather today isn't particularly cold; it's around 70 degrees F at most but supermarkets tend to get really cold and I don't fare well in that kind of "weather" so knit sweaters are amazing for those times.

Sweater: F21
Jeggings: Stole from my sister

The pictures basically suck. Let's be real here.

I'm wearing jeggings, which you can't even really tell but they're a dark gray color with fake front and back pockets.

and I have no clue what the policy is for whether or not you can take pictures of Buddhas but I took a picture of my necklace anyway. Mum says this year my luck is a bit..well..not great? So I wear this as protection.

As for shoes...No idea!

--------------------

UPDATE!
I have no idea how busy I'll be due to school so I may not be able to put up a post everyday like I have been doing thus far. :'( tears are being weeped.

Once I get into the swing of things, I should be able to figure out how to post more often but until then, I hope you all have a wonderful Labor Day and rest of September! :)

So here is an OOTD!

On Mondays and Tuesdays, I volunteer at this non profit organization that deals with baby donations (clothes, toys, books, etc.) and I usually like to dress casually and comfortably but still look somewhat presentable.

This look that I put together on Polyvore is based off of what I wore today. The items aren't an exact replica but the elements are similar, which means...

YOU can recreate this look using whatever pieces you already have in your closet. Feel free to incorporate your own style to it as well :)

That's all I've got for today! I hope you all have a fabulous week~

This is like super speedy OOTD!

Anyway, I'm going out to eat and shop with my family and this is what I'm wearing!

Top: Marshall's, Originally from Urban Outfitters (BDG brand)

Belt: IDK! Took it from my sister :)

Skirt: Forever21 from who knows how long ago

If you can't already tell, I basically just took a skirt that had the same color as the navy stripe in my shirt and used a belt in a similar color family of the yellow/mustard in my shirt to bring the whole outfit together! It's the easiest way to complete an outfit!

Hope you all have a wonderful Wednesday! Tata!

Until next,
