Hello dears! How has your week been so far? I bet a lot of you are happy that it's finally Friday! What are your plans for this weekend? I think I'm going to go hiking and probably just eat a lot, which isn't anything new. Since classes have started again this week, I have just been mindlessly getting work done (and unfortunately, the weekend is no exception!).

Like I mentioned in my last post, I am trying to bring back some of the series that I started a while ago but forgot about. The Fashion Icon series is one of them! This is where I highlight one particular individual or group that has been a huge inspiration to my style or just someone whose style I greatly admire. This week, I wanted to talk about Ingrid Nilsen. Perhaps many of you know her through her YouTube channel, where she creates a mix of content from advice videos to beauty to fashion. In addition to her style, I also just really like her personality (as far as I can see from how she portrays herself on the Internet). She's not afraid to speak up, which makes her a role model in many ways!

If I had to describe her fashion sense, I would probably say that it's down to earth but when she glams up, she's glammed up. It has a very New England, JCrew, preppy vibe to it, which I personally enjoy. I love scrolling through her Instagram posts to find new ways to style my own clothes, since I do actually live in New England where fashion isn't exactly top priority during the winter time.

I will post a couple of my favorite outfits from her here (disclaimer: all images were taken from her Instagram page. the links are below each image). Please let me know which is your favorite or if you like Ingrid's style as well!

Hello my dears! Are you all having a wonderful weekend? If anyone is having a yummy brunch, please snap a picture and tag me on Twitter @asmallbit...I love seeing food photos!

Today, I'm starting a new series (yes, another one, I know. I'm working on organizing and keeping track of all of them!) called From the Big Screen where I style outfits based on specific movies. If you have any requests for movies, please leave it in the comments below and I'll try to feature it in the next post!

How To Be Single came out not too long ago and I'm ashamed to say that I still haven't watched it yet. I really enjoyed Rebel Wilson's acting in Pitch Perfect so I hoped this movie would bring the same kind of laughter. It's currently on my list of movies to watch (it's a long list...) but in the meantime, I'll settle for Google images of movie clips.

That being said, here are a few outfits I styled based on some of the moments in the movie as well as the movie poster. Enjoy!

How To Be Single (1)

From left to right

1. SIMPLE AND PURPLE: By pairing a sleeveless tank with a bit of a sheen and a softer suede skirt, the contrast makes this monochromatic outfit much more interesting. Pair with booties to balance out the amount of skin shown.

2. SKIN HUGGING: To emphasize the smallest part of the waist, pairing a peplum top with a fitted bodycon skirt is a perfect going-out ensemble! Don't forget the drinks and bright red heels to pack a punch.

3. PLAYFUL SUMMER: An orange romper can be intimidating to wear, since it's plain but bright. Pair with fun sunglasses to balance and chunky black heels to ground the outfit.

4. CASUAL DENIM: For a toned down look, pair a beautiful royal blue blouse with darker jeans and top it off with brown boots for added softness.

1. CLASSIC CHIC: This is probably the closest recreation of the movie outfit. Keeping the boxy T-shirt silhouette and paired with an A-line gingham skirt produces a classic streamlined look. To further elevate it, pair with a tote bag (cheeky graphic optional).

2. POWERHOUSE: I love how the maxi skirt and strappy heel combo can create a very powerful look, like you're ready to take on the world. It's very feminine without showing too much skin.

3. THROWBACK: My personal favorite take is this last outfit. By incorporating a similar but larger sized cross pattern in the oversized sweater and then pairing a suede skirt with thigh highs, it becomes a mod look. Very playful. Slightly innocent. Slightly risque.

1. UPSCALE BOLD: By eliminating any patterns in both the jacket and the top, it becomes a very sleek outfit, great for work or brunch! Switch up the heels if you want a more laid-back feel.

2. FASHION FORWARD: Personally, I think this is a great outfit for someone who is interning at a fashion or advertising company. It's bright, fun, and very wearable. The print makes it a bit less serious while the cut and design of the jacket makes it more business appropriate.

3. SPRING DATE: A flowy white dress with a refreshing yellow blazer makes it perfect for a lovely spring date. It's just dressy enough so you can get away with pretty much anything you decide to do that day (maybe not rock climbing but most else is okay!). Show your charms with quirky earrings.

1. HIGH SCHOOL SWEETHEART: To me, this is a very youthful outfit. It's sporty but the denim skirt really gives it a school girl vibe.

2. JUST GOT HERE: This is the closest interpretation of the movie look. Minimizing the skin exposure by choosing a longer pant-version of overalls can give it a relaxed feel while maintaining femininity. If the sports bra is still too much, throw on your favorite hoodie. It's slouchy, comfy, but still fashion forward.

3. LIGHT AND BUBBLY: Pairing pastel pieces with lighter washed overalls makes it great for spring or summer. This is something I'd wear to the beach or the park. Tie in the color of the sports bra with colored sneakers to make it a bit more cohesive.

What did you guys think of this post? I had a ton of fun putting these outfits together and I can't wait to continue this series!

If you live anywhere where it snows incessantly, you'll know that there are specific boots you can wear in the fall and specific ones to wear in the winter. The second part of this series will focus on boots that are perfect for fall...whether it's sunny, raining, windy, or cloudy!

All of the shoes featured are my personal picks and do not necessarily reflect current trends. These are just boots that I'm lusting over and hopefully ones that you guys like as well :)

I think boots are one of the easiest kinds of shoes to wear. If you're looking for a little extra height, heeled boots can be a more comfortable option compared to stilettos. (Of course, this has limitations depending on what kind of occasion you want the heels for.)

[1] Gentle Souls Suede Moto Booties in Dark Taupe
[2] Stuart Weitzman High Street Over the Knee Boots
[3] Sam Edelman Cammie Ankle Boot
[4] Dolce Vita Hanover Fringe Booties
[5] Marc by Marc Jacobs Montague Booties
[6] Kate Spade Tracee Bow Bootie

Starting from #1, a low heeled suede boot can add a gentle and soft texture to a rougher, edgier outfit or be a perfect companion to a boho look. Next, over-the-knee boots are a must have! They are so sexy paired with a skirt or dress and you can opt for a flat pair versus a heeled one. Third, I never got over the track sole trend. I think there's something very masculine AND feminine about it at the same time. I'd recommend looking for this kind of sole if you live in places with a lot of snow because it'll help you trek through it much easier.

Moving on! We have another suede bootie but this one has a skinny heel and fringe! Yes, fringe. Okay so you'll either be totally obsessed or totally grossed out. I think fringe is cute on shoes when done properly and the stiletto makes this pair less cowboy-ish than most. Next we have a bold, red combat boot...gorgeous and unique. You can pair it with an all-black ensemble or with your cozy sweater and leggings combo. Last but not least...for all the cutesy, girly girls out there, I think this black chunky bootie with the leather bow is just beautiful. Very feminine but chic. A subtle way to incorporate a girly element to any outfit.

There you have it. I hope you enjoyed this! Leave it down below and tell me what you're go-to fall boots are! Or send me a Tweet about how you would style any of those boots :)

Bye for now,
Jenn

If you've been following me for a while, you'll know that I do a lot of shoe posts because that's just what I'm into. So, today I decided to start a series called Obsessed (although I'm still tentative about it so if you guys have any suggestions for another name, please let me know!). Basically in this series, I will go through a list of must-haves in each shoe category, like heels, sneakers, boots, etc.

[1] United Nude Slip Ons in Navy Black White
[2] Nike Toki Slip-On in Black White
[3] Nike Roshe Run Print Sneaker in White Silver Black
[4] Vans SK8 Hi Reissue in True White Premium Leather
[5] Vans Classic Slip On in Khaki True White
[6] Puma Classic Suede Sneaker in Grey Pink

I'm kicking it off (ha ha ha) with sneakers for the fall!

You don't need me to tell you that sneakers can be worn year-round and it's true for the ones I've selected above. But, I've chosen those specific ones because I think they'll be absolutely perfect for a cooler autumn. THESE ARE NOT NECESSARILY TRENDS. These are just sneakers that I love and wish I had (insert crying laugh emoji).

Black slip-ons are a MUST for fall. Why? You can wear them with ripped jeans, dark denim, light denim, leather shorts, leather skirts, white skinny jeans, flowy midi skirts...you name it! Go for either a leather/leather looking pair for a sleeker look or pick a sporty pair to add that down-to-earth vibe.

Next, white sneakers. Good for most of the year, though I don't recommend wearing them if you're in New England like me and winters = death piles of snow and slosh. However, for fall, choose a pair with a dark pattern or again, the leathery look. I find that the leather material makes the outfit a bit "heavier" and more fall appropriate.

Last but not least, suede! You'll either LOVE or HATE it. I think it adds a nice, warm texture to outfits, especially for colder months. If you opt for a taupe colored pair, you can wear them virtually all year. Throw them on with a white denim skirt and sweater or wear your favorite jeans and t-shirt to let the shoes do the talking!

What are your favorite sneakers for the fall? Let me know down below!!

Bye for now,
Jenn
